“Be a Super Hero for Halloween” by Donating a Costume to a Child Receiving Cancer Treatment
Pennypickle's Workshop, at the Temecula Children's Museum, in Old Town Temecula has joined with Discovery Arts to be a drop-off point for people donating Halloween costumes to children who are in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment.
Discovery Arts is asking for the communities’ participation and is encouraging others to honor children who are in the hospital receiving treatment for cancer or other life threatening diseases, by dropping off costumes at Pennypickle’s Workshop in Old Town Temecula until November 11, 2011.
“If you happen to be out and see costumes on sale during the Halloween season, keep us in mind. The girls love to be pretty princesses and the boys love to be strong superheroes. The children become very attached to their costumes and they are a great source of fantasy for them when their lives are disrupted by the unthinkable. We give our children a brand new costume each and every time they are in the hospital, all year long. They LOVE them... they sleep in them, they do shows in them, and we’ve even had one of our patients arrive in an ambulance at the hospital dressed in her Cinderella costume!! We are thrilled that Pat Camerchero of Pennypickle’s Workshop so kindly offered to have the Temecula Children’s Museum as a drop off point, said Discovery Arts Executive Director Marilyn Clements.
Pennypickle’s Workshop, at the Temecula Children’s Museum is located at 42081 Main Street in Old Town Temecula. Pennypickle's gift shop is operated by the Friends of the Temecula Children's Museum, a group of volunteers charged with aiding Pennypickle's Workshop with fundraising and sponsorship opportunities that support operations and programs at the museum. Program Coordinator Katie Cline is bringing Discovery Arts to Texas
On Thursday October 20th, Art Six Coffee House in Denton, TX will host a benefit concert for the non-profit Discovery Arts, featuring an exciting roster of local musicians. Discovery Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that brings music, art, dance and drama to children who are in the hospital receiving treatment for cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Plans are currently underway to bring ‘Art Adventures’ to Medical City Children's Hospital in Dallas.
‘Music For A Cause’ will feature the musical talents of Paul Putman, Regine Kalala and Katie Puryear, band members Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, and Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix, who are currently competing on “The Sing Off” on NBC, as well as, the UNT Glee Club.
The concert is being promoted by Discovery Arts’ Texas Program Coordinator, Katie Cline. Plans are under way to bring Discovery Arts ‘Arts Adventures’ to children in Dallas who are battling life threatening illnesses. “The arts are an escape. It gives these very sick children a sense of normalcy that they are completely robbed of when they face the monster of cancer. Most adults can hardly fathom facing this demon... when a child is forced to grow up almost over night, it causes great need for emotional expression and stability. Discovery Arts brings joy, hope, and laughter through the power of the arts and imagination.”, said Katie Cline.
‘Music For A Cause’ begins at 8:30 PM at Art Six Coffee House, located at 424 Bryan Street Denton, TX 76201. Tickets are $7.00 and include a FREE Wristband. Bring a blanket to relax under the stars to enjoy the show. Seating is limited so ordering your tickets prior to the show is advised and are available by calling 972-978-8051. Tickets will also be available at the door.
